How to choose the best carpet size

Choosing the right carpet size is like tailoring a garment for your space—it should fit well and enhance the overall aesthetic. Here are some practical tips to help your customers select the ideal carpet size based on room type and layout:

1. Based on Room Function

Living Room:

  • For placement in front of the sofa, choose a size that covers the coffee table and reaches the front legs of the sofa (e.g., 160×230cm or 200×300cm).

  • To define the entire seating area, opt for a larger size that accommodates all furniture (e.g., 250×350cm).

Bedroom:

  • For a single bed: 120×180cm or 160×230cm placed beside or at the foot of the bed.

  • For a double bed: 200×300cm to extend beyond the bed and create a cozy atmosphere.

Dining Room:

  • The carpet should extend at least 60cm beyond all sides of the dining table to allow chairs to remain on the carpet when pulled out. Common sizes include 200×300cm or larger.

Entryway/Hallway:

  • Choose a narrow runner-style carpet (e.g., 80×200cm) for both style and practicality.

2. Based on Furniture Layout

  • Floating layout: Carpet does not touch furniture, used mainly for decorative purposes in small spaces.

  • Partial coverage: Carpet covers the front legs of furniture, balancing aesthetics and function.

  • Full coverage: All furniture sits entirely on the carpet, ideal for large spaces with a unified look.

3. Based on Visual Proportion and Aesthetics

  • Leave a border of 20–30cm between the carpet edge and the wall to avoid a cramped appearance.

  • Avoid oversized carpets in small rooms—they can overwhelm the space. Likewise, small carpets in large rooms may look disconnected.

4. Special Tips

  • Measure before buying: Use tape or newspapers to outline the carpet size on the floor for a visual preview.

  • Pattern and color: Larger carpets highlight patterns more prominently. Light colors make spaces feel bigger; dark tones add warmth and depth.
